Guest Dialogue #11

About the revival of old traditions and a very special visit to the theater...

Markus V. felt “like a celebrity” when he did that last summer Staatstheater am Gartnerplatz visited. He uses a walker and is therefore on one barrier-free access reliant. Although he did not request a perimeter seat in advance, the theater may spontaneously offer him a seat in the wheelchair space. Mark V is delighted with the service, because he is picked up at the entrance, taken to the elevator and accompanied to the performance hall and to his seat.

He not only looks back fondly on the professional and friendly interaction – that too Operetta “The Bat', which he then listens to, he really likes. He is enthusiastic about the beautiful costumes and the humorous acting. "The Bat" by Johann Strauss is considered one of the most famous operettas of the composer, which is why it is performed more frequently in major opera houses. Markus V. also knew the story beforehand, but had never seen it staged live. Without the mediation of KulturRaum, he probably would not have had the operetta category in mind. In a personal conversation with our agents, he has the Take the opportunity and try something new.

Actually, the heart of Markus V. beats for All kinds of concerts. Music has fascinated him since he was young – and that across all genres. At the age of just 14 he attended his first concert in what was then the congress hall of the Deutsches Museum. Since then, concerts have determined his cultural leisure activities. In August 2020, Markus V. registers with KulturRaum München, as his financial means for cultural experiences are no longer available due to his severe mobility restrictions. KulturRaum Munich now offers him the chance to continue his cultural hobby and get out of home again.

Markus V. was only recently at his first classical concert. It was the anniversary concert of KulturRaum Munich and the academic symphony orchestra in the Isarphilharmonie, which impressed him and which he really liked. The opportunity to think outside the box and also get to know new venues appreciates Markus V. particularly. In this way he has already rediscovered one or the other museum or cabaret stage. He also jokes that you "get to know a few back entrances" when you are "smuggled" into a building via a barrier-free path. So did he always a new perspective on the venues or museums and see some cellars and workshops. Physical limitations should never be an exclusion criterion for the participation in cultural life be. So Markus V.'s plan to see an opera in the Bavarian State Opera soon will hopefully soon become a reality.
